High Desert Heat & Sunday Breezes

A Taste of Summer: Sunday 80s and Breezy Conditions Ahead for Central Oregon

If you enjoyed the mild Saturday, get ready for a change of pace. Our latest data from the National Weather Service shows a significant warm-up arriving just in time for the end of the weekend.

The Sunday Setup We’re looking at a transition day. Sunday will bring more cloud cover than today, but don't let that fool you—it's going to be warm. Expect daytime highs to climb into the low 80s for the Tri-County area, while our friends in Sunriver and La Pine will see the 70s.

The main thing to watch if you’re heading out to the lakes or the trails is the wind. By Sunday afternoon, we’re expecting gusts reaching up to 25-30 mph.

Lifestyle Impacts: What You Need to Know

  • For Our Ranchers & Growers: It is staying dry. We’ve got zero rain in the immediate forecast until at least Wednesday, and even then, it's only a 20% "hopeful" chance. With temps hitting the upper 80s and low 90s by Tuesday, irrigation will be working overtime for the alfalfa.
  • Hiking & Wildlife: If you’re hitting the Badlands or Smith Rock, go early. The combination of Sunday’s heat and the afternoon gusts can dry out the fuels quickly—increasing our fire concern. Keep an eye out for wildlife near the river banks as they seek water during this dry stretch.
  • Photography: Sunday's "mostly cloudy" sky is actually a gift. You'll get that beautiful filtered, soft light on the Cascades and our local basalt formations without the harsh glare we'll see on Monday.

The Week Ahead Keep the sunscreen handy. Monday through Wednesday looks like a heatwave by May standards, with some areas potentially touching 90 degrees before a slight chance of showers mid-week.
