Warming trend begins and with highs in the 80s later this week

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Plenty of sunshine and light winds will provide another quiet day across the high desert. The high temperatures for this week should be in the upper 60s, while the actual temperatures will reach the 70s Wednesday and Thursday, and the 80s into the weekend. There will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky conditions as the week moves along with no rain in sight.

The force that is driving this above normal pattern is an area of high pressure off the coast. This high will stay off-shore all week but be in just the right spot to provide us with the warmth. There will be a deep dip in the jet-stream, the steering current high in the sky for storms, off to the east. This will allow the bulk of any wet weather to ride along the edge of the ridge and stay east of Oregon.

The warmer than normal pattern is expected to transition to more seasonable conditions beginning Memorial Day.  The area will still be above normal Monday, with highs in the low 70s, but the skies will begin to fill with clouds late in the day. There is a chance for some showers to arrive Tuesday morning along with some cooler air.

If you are planning any outdoor activities this week, make sure to stay hydrated. The air is relatively dry this week, so any perspiration you generate will evaporate quickly, and we use more energy to keep cool. We need to keep replenishing that lost water in our body, so drink plenty of water.

Also, the ground is very dry and we are in the severe drought category this week.  Be mindful of any campfires or any other activities that may spark a wildfire.

Also, get out and vote today if you so desire, the weather will not be a problem.

Please, Stay safe and smart.
