Chilly start to July, but much warmer conditions are on the way

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – After a cold start to the day, the sunshine has done its job and warmed us back to the 70s.  Still below where we should be for this time of year, normally early July is around 80.  The low today in La Pine was 30°, which is about 8 – 10 degrees below what it should be. This below normal pattern is expected to linger again today before warmer than normal conditions return for the weekend.

Thursday will begin the warm up as highs are likely to be about 10 degrees warmer than today.  A few clouds are expected to cross the region in the early afternoon, but will be mainly high and mid-level clouds. These clouds will keep us from warming into the 80s most spots as I am forecasting upper 70s most locations. Areas north of Redmond will get there, but only by a degree or two. Winds will be light and variable.

Not much other than temperatures changing the rest of the week and into the weekend. Highs Friday hit the middle 80s followed by upper 80s over the weekend.

Saturday, the Fourth of July, will be very warm as we continue our run of clear and dry days. Highs will reach the upper 80s most locations. The forecast for Saturday evening will be for mostly clear skies and mild temperatures.  Evening temps will drop to the low 80s or upper 70s around 7pm and be in the upper 60s or low 70s at 10 pm for our area fireworks shows.

The long holiday weekend should not be hampered by any rain, although it would be nice to get some soaking rain this time of year. The dry and warmer pattern will remain into next week.

Sunday and Monday both have a chance for us to breach the 90-degree mark as I am forecasting upper 80s and low 90s.

Tuesday will be very warm and dry again, but a passing shower or storm on Wednesday in SE Oregon is possible.  The storms, if they materialize, will be of the “pop and drop” variety.

Please, Stay safe.
