Hot pattern sets up for the week, Red Flag Warning in effect for parts of Central Oregon

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – The hot patterns of summer come and go, but this season it does not help that the dry patterns are present as well.

We are in the Extreme Drought Category in Central Oregon, so please be aware of any fire restrictions at your location.  The Red Flag Warning is in effect for northern sections of Oregon on Tuesday afternoon and evening as winds from the west push through the Cascade gaps. Winds will be robust mainly across the Columbia River Basin.  Just because we are not included in the warning, does not mean we will be without concern. We are very dry and this week’s heat wave will not be beneficial to the already parched plants.

Highs today will be in the low 90s once again. Monday kicked off the run of 90-degree conditions with a 90 at Bend Municipal Airport. The highs the rest of the work week will follow suit.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and hot with highs in the low to middle 90s. Normal highs for mid-August are around the low to middle 80s, so we are about 10-degrees below our normal range.

Thursday will be the “peak heat” day as the mercury reaches the middle 90s under mostly sunny skies.

Friday will end the run of 90s as clouds will arrive late in the day, after we hit 90. There is a slight chance of a passing shower in the late afternoon or early evening, but not much rain is expected to reach the ground.

Highs on Saturday will be closer to seasonal normals with highs in the middle 80s under partly cloudy skies. More of the same Sunday followed by a slight warming trend to the upper 80s Monday and Tuesday.

Just a note, lightning has started most of the fires this season here in Oregon, so we don’t need any human caused fires to add to the destruction and danger.  Use common sense when out and about.

Thanks to all the fire fighters and construction contractors that have been on the front lines this summer.  A brutal fight this year, and a dangerous one, thank you for all you do.

Please, Stay safe and smart.
