Hot pattern continues, storms possible Friday evening

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – The sunny and dry weather will define the middle of the week as the heat also continues. Highs today will hit the 90s for the third day in a row, followed by the “peak heat” day on Thursday with mid-90s. The parched and tinder dry conditions are very dangerous and new fire starts will grow and run quickly, so please be aware of your surroundings and obey all restrictions in place.

Friday will be the end of the 90-degree run with highs hitting the low 90s before rainy and stormy weather arrives.

There is a chance for some storms to develop in the late afternoon and evening time period Friday which will help to break the heat. The concern is, as always, the lightning. There will be thunderstorms associated with the rain, and the opportunity for new fires to kick off is a real possibility.

The storms are expected to end overnight into Saturday so we should salvage a dry and seasonable weekend with highs in the middle 80s both Saturday and Sunday.

A slight uptick in the temperature profile Monday and Tuesday as highs reach the upper 80s and maybe a few low 90s. Dry and breezy weather is not a good recipe this time of year with respect to wildfires.

We have had, and still have, a number of fires this season. The fire fights are going well, but they are not extinguished. The fires inside the perimeters of these events continue to smolder and remain hot. Tuesday, we saw the Rowe Creek Complex West Zone flair up, an example of why the fire fighters continue to “patrol” and “mop up” the interior for months.

Just a note, lightning has started most of the fires this season here in Oregon, so we don’t need any human caused fires to add to the destruction and danger.  Use common sense when out and about.

Thanks to all the fire fighters and construction contractors that have been on the front lines this summer.  A brutal fight this year, and a dangerous one, thank you for all you do.

Please, Stay safe and smart.
