Chilly Labor Day morning gives way to clearing skies, warmer days ahead

CENTRAL OREGON — A few showers remain possible Sunday evening before Central Oregon dries out heading into Labor Day.

The National Weather Service gives Bend, Redmond, Prineville and Madras a 30% chance of evening showers, with rainfall amounts expected to remain below a tenth of an inch. Overnight temperatures fall into the upper 30s to mid-40s.

Areas closer to the Cascades will be colder, with Sisters, Sunriver and La Pine dropping into the lower 30s to lower 40s.

Farther south, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday for portions of Klamath and Lake counties. That includes nearby communities such as Chemult, Gilchrist and Crescent, where temperatures could fall as low as 29 degrees. Frost and freezing temperatures could damage sensitive vegetation.

Labor Day starts partly cloudy before skies clear. Highs reach the upper 60s around Bend, Redmond, Prineville and Madras, with lighter winds expected through the day.

The warming trend continues Tuesday, with highs climbing into the 70s. By Wednesday and Thursday, portions of Central Oregon are expected to reach the lower to mid-80s under mostly clear skies.

A cooler pattern returns Friday into the weekend, with highs generally falling back into the 60s and 70s.
