Melting snow today, more snow expected overnight
The sun is doing a good job of melting the snow received Wednesday and the roads around the region are slushy. Temperatures are pushing into the 40s as we recover from the icy scenario that occurred after sunset Thursday. This warm up is not necessarily going to be great news tonight as the chance for ice to re-form is high. Last night, once the temps dipped into the 20s right after sunset, the roads in Bend were very dangerous. Ice was thick enough on main and secondary roads leading to treacherous driving conditions.
Tonight, I expect to see the same chance for more icy roads due to the re-freeze of the melting ice and snow. There is also a chance for more snow to arrive and add to the issues on the roads.
Snow will fall over the area tonight from around sunset to 3 am. This will add an inch or so to the area. Snowfall totals have been robust from yesterday, trickling into the NWS local storm report this morning. Sisters reported the most with 8” of snow measured, Bend had 6” and Redmond saw around 4”. Along the crest of the Cascades, about a foot or more will fall by Friday morning.
Once the snow ends early Friday morning the warnings and advisories will be allowed to expire. There may be some school closures or delays in some of our more rural area Friday, so keep an eye on that during our Sunrise show. Sisters may get the lions share of the snow once again as the event will be closer to the mountains than the deserts.
Friday will be dry and brisk with highs in the mid-30s as we get ready for another wave of snow and rain Saturday. More rain on Saturday than snow as the mercury will be in the 40s.
Dry Sunday then some more snow and rain arrive on Monday.
