Air quality levels reaching unhealthy once again, fire weather danger continues

KTVZ

Another hot day for the books. Highs today in the 90s. Lows tonight in 40s and 50s. Lots of sunshine today but the smoke will make for a very hazy sky.

Yesterday, we started the morning with good and moderate air quality levels but very quickly took a turn for the worst. The southeast and easterly flow was unfavorable to us, bringing in dense smoke that worsened our air quality to unhealthy levels in a matter of hours. Today, the flow isn’t any better. Winds generally coming from the east will continue to pollute our skies. Air quality alerts have been released for Deschutes and Crook County. These alerts are set to expire on Friday, but they often get extended. I’m going to hold off on saying air quality will be better for your weekend.

The hot and dry pattern persists underneath the ridge of high pressure. We’ll remain hot through Sunday. Heat Advisories out for our forecast area until Saturday night.

A small disturbance, way high in the sky, will help to break down the high pressure starting Friday and over the weekend. As this low pressure chips away at the ridge, it will bring a few more clouds. This pattern will also increase fire weather danger. Chances for rain or storms Friday and Saturday are little to none. Only slightly better chances will be to our south and along the Cascades.

More normal temperatures as well as rain can be expected early next week. We might finally start feeling a bit more like fall.

There are a number of alerts/advisories out for our area. Please refer to the banner at the top of the website frequently to stay updated.
