Showers arrive tonight, much cooler with off and on rain and mountain snow into Thursday

The pattern has shifted from a mild and dry to much cooler and cloudy. There is a good chance for some widespread rain tonight, albeit only about a tenth of an inch at best.  Any rain at this point is good rain with the region being way behind as far as seasonal moisture.  The rain should begin after sunset and end before sunrise, but another round is expected Wednesday.

The rain on Wednesday will be a chilly rain and only spotty showers are expected. Highs will be in the 50s Wednesday so the precipitation will be liquid, not snow.  The rain showers will be off and on, but once again, the amounts will be light.  A good old-fashioned soaking is what we need to scour out the particulate matter from the fires as well as add to the water table, but we will not get that. We take what we can at this point.

There is another round of precipitation that is slated to arrive after midnight into Thursday and this batch will be mingled with some snow.  The wintry mix of rain and snow at lower elevations will see no accumulation of snow. The roads will, however, may be slick early in the day as the falling snow melts on contact.  The ground is not even close to frozen, so all the fat, wet flakes that fall will melt quickly. Some snow may be seen on the leaves and maybe on your parked car or deck, but generally this event will be short lived and lack any accumulating ability.

There should be mostly snow in the higher elevated spots of the Cascades making travel a little tricky through the passes.  By the afternoon Thursday the skies should be partly cloudy and the three pronged rain event will be done.

Friday will be chilly with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s before a bit of a warm up happens Saturday and Sunday.  Highs over the weekend will be around 70 degrees with variably cloudy skies.
