Coolest day today with wintry mix and mountain snow

Highs today will be the coolest of the week, with most areas just barely making it to the 50s. Overnight lows tonight will cold, with everyone below freezing. Expect lows to drop into the 20s and below.

A Freeze Watch was released by the National Weather Service for a small part of northeast Jefferson County overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. Although only a portion of our forecast area is under that watch, act as if we all are because sub-freezing temperatures are expected across Central Oregon.

Spotty, cold rain is in the forecast for our day. We’ll see some mountain snow accumulate through the morning. The Cascades could accumulate around 2-4 inches. Accumulation isn’t expected to last long through the mountain passes due to the warm ground which means that roads will be slick as snow melts. There is a Winter Weather Advisory out for the Cascades due to the slippery and slick roads from the snow showers and the slushiness that’ll occur as the snow melts through the afternoon.

Areas like Sunriver, La Pine, and Sisters could see a bit of a wintry mix this morning because of the higher elevation. It is unlikely that anyone else will, but roads could still be a bit slippery. Everyone should be cautious driving today and tomorrow morning.

Rain clears tomorrow but we remain cool, in the 50s. We’ll heat up back into the 70s for the weekend but it won’t last long. We’ll start next week right about normal, in the low 60s.

Happy Thursday and drive safely! Keep an eye out for the pumpkin in my forecast through the end of the month.
