Milder pattern with rain on the way overnight
The temperatures the rest of the week will be well above the normal low 40s as the mercury will hit the low 50s for a few days. Although a weak cold front moves through Wednesday, the air behind the front will not be impacted much as a ridge builds quickly in the area.
There will be a chance for some rain to arrive overnight ahead of the cold front, but should be out of the region before sunrise. The precipitation will be all rain, except for some high elevation snow, as the air temperature readings will not be below freezing. There may be some patchy fog in places Wednesday morning, so prepare for some limited visibility in the morning.
We stay in a mild pattern into the weekend as a ridge builds and we stay dry. The dry regime will come to an end on Saturday as off and on rain showers are possible. This will begin a period of wet weather over the weekend and into the new work week.
Sunday will be rainy off and on with high temperatures in the upper 40s. Some rain/snow mix is possible at times but the overall precipitation type will be rain.
Monday starts out dry but rain arrives late in the day and will linger into Tuesday morning. The rain is likely most of the day. A cooler batch of air arrives but we remain in the 40s Christmas Eve Day. Currently we are looking at the Christmas Day forecast to be mainly dry with some light rain in the morning, but that is well out in our forecast time line, so it is subject to chance. Current thinking is that we will not have much of a chance for snow or Christmas.
Winter arrives officially at 1:20 am Saturday as the Winter Solstice occurs at that time. The direct rays of the Sun will be over the Tropic of Cancer and we will experience the least amount of daylight and the most darkness on the 21st.
