First week of June brings pleasant temps and sunny skies
Happy June!
Today is the first day of meteorological summer, which includes the months of June, July, and August. Meteorologists use these three-month groupings for tracking weather and climate data.
Astronomical summer, on the other hand, starts Friday, June 20. It’s based on the Earth’s position in its orbit around the sun. That's the day of the summer solstice, marking the year’s longest day in terms of sunlight.
Overnight lows will drop into the 30s and 40s under mostly clear skies.
There's another opportunity to catch the Northern Lights, thanks to a strong geomagnetic storm. For the best views, move away from city lights and look toward the northern horizon between 10pm Sunday and 2am Monday.
As a trough shifts east tonight, a dry northwesterly flow will settle in, bringing more stable weather to the Pacific Northwest through much of the week.
Conditions will be pleasant on Monday with near normal temperatures. Afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 70s under sunny skies.
Tuesday and Wednesday should be nice, with temperatures warming a bit above average and some areas reaching the 80s again. Overall, it should be a great week for some outdoor plans.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
