Warm to hot weekend ahead, isolated storms possible Monday

The past few days have started out with plenty of sunshine followed by increasing cloudiness in the afternoon. Tuesday a cluster of storms moves along the 97 corridor and was fairly robust at times and very electric.  Wednesday there were some light showers in Jefferson County with the cloud cover, Thursday we saw some clouds but no rain making it to the ground, and the same is expected today. In other words, variably cloudy skies and spotty afternoon showers defined the week.

Heading into the weekend, I expect to see a warm day Saturday with highs in the low 80s. There may be some clouds in the afternoon, but no rain should make it to the ground. Saturday will be a nice day to get out and enjoy the outdoor activities that are so prevalent here in Central Oregon.

Sunday will be much warmer; in fact, we are likely to get into the low 90s most locations.  The threshold for me when it comes to hot vs. warm is 90-degrees so Sunday qualifies as hot in my book. There will be a mix of clouds and sun in the afternoon but mostly sunny skies will allow us to get to the low 90s. The heat is coming around an area of high pressure to our southeast, over the Great Basin, and will help us to heat up.

While all this heating is going on, an area of low pressure is developing off the coast of Central California. This low will spin off the coast Monday and possibly Tuesday, ushering in some moisture.  The moisture and the heat of the day Monday will give us a chance to see some isolated storms in the afternoon.  Some models suggest that this will occur again on Tuesday afternoon as well.  This slow moving low will move inland early next week and the threat for rain from that feature will come to an end.

Temperatures Monday and Tuesday, even with the potential for storms will still reach the low 90s.
