Heating up moving forward through the week

BEND, Ore (KTVZ) Plenty of sunshine and slightly above normal temperatures continue into Wednesday. High pressure is dominating the western half of the country this week and will provide the dry and much warmer weather as the week moves along.

The ridge is centered over the “Four Corners” region and will remain there through the weekend.  The Four Corners are nicknamed that because four states are connected at a single point, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah.  The high will expand from that point this week, extending well into the western United States. The skies will be mostly clear, and the air temperature will warm into the 90s as early as Thursday, and no later than Friday.

Highs on Wednesday will be in the middle 80s as the ridge starts to build west. The sky conditions are expected to be clear and dry.

Thursday starts the heating process as the mercury in the thermometer will hit the 90s most locations. This is the start of our short, but impactful, heat wave. Highs from Friday through at least Monday will be in the middle 90s.  If you are planning any outdoor activities, stay hydrated and be mindful of anything that may start a fire.  The fuel on the ground is very dry and if sparked, will fire up quickly and spread rapidly.

There is an area of low pressure to our north this week, but that will not be able to penetrate the western wall of the high. Expect to see the low deflect north and east as the ridge builds.

Stay safe.
