Cooler and wet pattern to end the month of September

(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) After a nearly record high temperature of 88 on Saturday and an 84 on Sunday the area will be rainy and much cooler this week.  The high of 88 Saturday came two degrees shy of the record 90 set in 2016 and there were near records last Wednesday when we hit 91.  Those numbers may well be the last of summer heat for a while.

This week the region is dealing with much cooler air and some rain shower activity.  The rain is expected to be present from today through Thursday.  This is a nice cool down and will go a long way to suppressing our fire season. The season is still active, as seen by the Mcnamee Fire in Jefferson County yesterday that consumed 2500 acres of brush and grass during the afternoon. That blaze is being monitored, and with the winds today, this may expand rapidly.

Tuesday will be a cool and rainy day as well with the rain arriving late in the day.  A cold front has pushed through the region today, stalling out over the eastern high desert.  Another is expected to push through early Thursday, reinforcing the cool pattern.

Winds today were robust early and should relax as the day moves along. The main feature the rest of the day and into the night will be the chance for some light rain.

Wednesday will be another rainy day with the rainy pattern and mostly cloudy skies defining the early part of October.  The showers are expected to be off and on through the day and will keep the temps in the 60s.

Rain begins to taper off Thursday and we should see a dry weekend. Upper 60s Thursday and Friday, with low 60s on Saturday and Sunday.

A quick switch to fall has occurred. Seems like that has been happening over the past few years.  Very warm pattern, with very little transition to a cooler one.  Looks like it is time to break out the sweaters and enjoy the pumpkin spiced latte.
