“Pour It Forward” Cereal Drive with Fred Meyer
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Fred Meyer has launched a statewide "Pour It Forward" Cereal Drive to collect donations for local food banks. The fundraiser, which runs through March 10, encourages shoppers to donate new boxes of cereal to help families in need.
The dive happens during National Cereal Day on March 7.
Customers can participate by purchasing a new, unopened box of cereal during their regular shopping trips and placing it in donation bins at the front of the store.
David Weber, one of the store leads at the Bend Fred Meyer, says their store often makes donations to local food banks, and hears about their needs.
"Cereal is one of the most requested donated items, that they (food banks) have (requested) and consistently, over time," Weber said. "And it's one of the least donated items that they get. So it's really important that, you know, we get behind these programs for the community."
The fundraiser is part of a statewide effort involving other Meyer locations. All donations made at local locations will stay within the community. At the Fred Meyer in Bend, they're being sent to the NeighborImpact Food Bank.
Organizers said the goal of the drive is to ensure children in the community start their mornings with a full meal to help them succeed in school.
The "Pour It Forward" Cereal Drive will continue at participating stores through March 10.
