Silver Rail Elementary students will return to campus Nov. 12

KTVZ-TV

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Students at Silver Rail Elementary School are scheduled to return to their building on Thursday, Nov. 12, following the expected completion of restoration work. Bend-La Pine Schools announced the reopening timeline in an update sent to staff and families yesterday.

Restoration work at the elementary school is expected to wrap up by Monday, Nov. 9, barring any unforeseen challenges. The schedule allows time for school personnel to prepare facilities before students resume in-person classes.

Before students return to the classroom, teachers and staff will return to campus to prepare classrooms and learning spaces. The district is also providing opportunities for Silver Rail families to visit the campus and walk through the school prior to Nov. 12. Information regarding the schedule for staff and family visits is published on the district's Silver Rail updates page.

Several safety and support measures will take effect when the building reopens. A School Resource Officer will be stationed on campus through the end of the school year to maintain safety. Additionally, an extra administrator and extra staff members will be on site during the transition.

To support students returning to the building, the district is also increasing mental health resources. Additional student support specialists will be stationed at the school to provide care for students.
