ALOHA, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a 3-year-old Portland-area boy has died following an apparent accidental shooting involving a gun he found in a bedroom drawer.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says the family of James Kenneth Lindquester of Aloha called for help Friday evening after reporting the child found a handgun in a bedroom end table and shot himself in the head.

Emergency responders arrived and took over life-saving efforts, but the child was pronounced dead at an area hospital just before midnight on Friday. Police are investigating.

The sheriff's office said the family asked that photos of the boy be provided with a news release on the incident.
