OSU-Cascade changes name of energy degree

In order to better reflect the focus of the energy degree program and to meet the standards of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Oregon State University – Cascades has changed the name of the program to energy systems engineering.

The name change does not affect course curriculum.

The new title will better convey the program’s emphasis on energy systems and processes to prospective students and potential employers.

In the two years since the energy degree launched, it has grown from four to 39 students, with an additional 58 students taking prerequisites at Central Oregon Community College or on OSU’s main campus in Corvallis. The ESE degree is not offered on the main campus, requiring students to complete the degree at the Bend campus. This fall, officials anticipate about 100 students in the ESE program, either enrolled at OSU-Cascades or in the pipeline to transfer to OSU-Cascades. The program’s first graduate is expected in fall 2012.
