Burns teen under house arrest for threats
A Burns teen is on house arrest, suspected of making threats against a fellow high school student, KGW in Portland reported Monday.
The 17-year-old made unspecified threats — involving bringing a gun to school — against the fellow student last Thursday, according to Burns police and Harney County School District 3.
An automated call was sent out to parents and students after the incident, and extra security was added to school events, including a football game.
“We like to be transparent, we like our community to be informed,” said Superintendent Dr. Marilyn McBride. “Anytime we have a threat, we like that info to be out there.”
The suspect was investigated and will undergo risk assessments, McBride added.
Anyone with information is asked to call the school district at 541-573-6811 or the sheriff’s office at 541-573-6028.
