Call to artists for ‘A Novel Idea’ art shows

KTVZ

American painter Edward Hopper once said, “If I could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint.”

Deschutes Public Library’s art committees invite all artists to embrace both the written word and artistic expression during “A Novel Idea,” the Library’s countywide reading project. Deadlines and applications vary. For more information contact your local library.

Downtown Bend Library | Applications are currently available at the Library. Deadline for art submission is Tuesday, March 3, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Redmond Library | Applications for the Redmond Library art show will be available at the Library starting Saturday, February 14.

Sunriver Library | Applications are currently available at the library. Deadline for art submissions is Wednesday, March 18.

Sisters Library | Art submissions are due at the Sisters Library on Tuesday, March 31st.

“An objective of “A Novel Idea” has always been to inspire collaboration and to ignite the creation of art,” says Chantal Strobel, Community Relations Manager and “A Novel Idea” project manager.

Art committees from several DPL branches took up the challenge of curating art exhibits based on the novel. Art has ranged from photography, painting and sculpture.

“This year should be an outstanding year for ‘A Novel Idea’ art,” says Strobel. “Ruth Ozeki’s novel, A Tale for the Time Being, is rich in imagery and theme. We look forward to seeing what the talented artists of Deschutes County create.”
