Bend Area Habitat names new executive director
After a four-month search, Bend Area Habitat for Humanity announced Monday the selection of Scott Rohrer as its next executive director.
“Because of Habitat’s complexities as an operator of two ReStores, a home builder and repair contractor and a financial institution that provides mortgages to families, we needed to find a leader that has had experiences in many aspects of our work. Scott’s extensive background in business management, financial investment and charitable foundation development makes him uniquely qualified to fill the role as our new Executive Director,” explained Habitat’s Board President, M.L. Vidas
During his 20-year career with Hewlett-Packard Co., Rohrer held a variety of management positions ranging from Engineering Product Manager to the Director of Marketing Operations.
Since leaving HP in 2002, he served as Missions Pastor for a church in New England that worked with orphanages in developing nations, started and managed a private energy trust in the Canadian oil and gas industry and founded “Bridge to Life”, an international charity focused on helping unmarried teenage mothers in Kenya, Africa.
“Throughout my career in the private and the non-profit sectors, I have always maintained that my job was to make things better,” said Rohrer. “Bend Area Habitat is the perfect organization that allows me to work with highly talented people who are committed to helping low income families earn the opportunity to own a decent, safe and affordable home. I am thrilled and honored to be part of such an outstanding organization.”
A native of Oregon, Rohrer, 55, left the state 15 years ago for career opportunities in Singapore, New England and Alberta, Canada. He settled in Bend a year ago because of his love of fishing, hunting and hiking. He and his wife, Nikie, have four children: John, 25, Joshua, 22, Anna, 20 and James, 13.
