Redmond PD plans DUII crackdown during fair

Redmond police will be adding patrols during the Deschutes County Fair to target drunk drivers, officers said Tuesday.

Wednesday, July 30th, is the start of the 2014 Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo. The Fair, rodeo and concerts brings many people into Redmond, some of whom will choose to drink alcohol and use other intoxicants.

The Redmond Police Department, in an effort to reduce DUII related incidents, will be providing extra DUII dedicated patrols throughout the week of the Fair, including a High Visibility Enforcement campaign on Friday evening.

In addition to increased DUII patrols throughout the week of the Fair, on Friday, August 1st, RPD will have no less than three DUII dedicated officers on duty looking for, stopping and arresting DUII drivers. The goal is to prevent the decision to drive while impaired in the first place.

Please consider a designated driver if drinking or using other intoxicants, or take advantage of alternative transportation such as taxis or bus rides from Bend, Sisters and the Redmond High School.

The bus rides will also prevent you from having to wait to exit the Fair at night when the concert and rodeo release, usually at the same time.
