40 graduate from Bend Police Dept. Citizen Academy

KTVZ

The Bend Police Department would like to express gratitude for the 40 members of our community that recently completed our Citizen Academy.

The graduates are part of class #32. During the seven weeks of the academy, these community members received firsthand experience on the daily activities of the police officers at the Bend Police Department.

The academy classes ranged from operations in detectives, patrol services, records, evidence, community policing and use of force. These community members dedicated three hours a week to take part in this class. The attendance in the citizen academy is a pre-requisite to become a volunteer with the City of Bend Police Department.

The academy itself is organized by our Volunteer Coordinator and our cadre of volunteer staff. This staff included 15 volunteers who put in 332 hours of volunteer time to make class #32 a huge success.
