Redmond seeks ADA advisory committee applicants

The City of Redmond is developing the framework for its Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan. The plan identifies barriers to access for persons with disabilities who use various features in the public rights of way such as sidewalks, curb ramps, pedestrian street crossings, pedestrian signals along with park facilities and public buildings.

The ADA Transition Plan will identify needs and plan for improvements and enhance compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and standards.

To ensure the Plan addresses users’ needs, the City is organizing a Transition Plan Advisory Committee to provide feedback on the planning framework and identifying priorities. It is anticipated that the Committee will meet approximately three to five times during the next 10 months.

The purpose of the committee will be to learn what the City of Redmond is doing to create its ADA Transition Plan and provide a forum to discuss and share information and insights that will help establish a strong and effective ADA Transition Plan for Redmond. The public’s input, especially from people with disabilities, is invaluable to ensure the City arrives at the best possible plan of action.

The Advisory Committee strives to include:

People with disabilities – the City is seeking representatives from a variety of disabilities; Senior citizens; Other individuals and members of groups that struggle with barriers and access related to transportation, parks and other City services, such as parents of minor children with disabilities; and People with experience and knowledge of ADA planning and requirements or also serve disabled populations.
