VIM Clinic gets $11K county grant to care for 33 patients
Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades is excited to announce the recent award of an $11,000 grant from the Deschutes County Community Grant Program.
This gift will provide 33 low-income, uninsured adults in Deschutes County with one year of comprehensive healthcare. This includes primary and specialty care, prescription medication, mental health care and limited dental care.
“We are very thankful for Deschutes County’s support,” said Kat Mastrangelo, Executive Director of VIM. “Together we are improving the health and well-being of at-risk families in our community.”
VIM contributes to community health and reduces the overall cost of healthcare for everyone in Central Oregon. Every aspect of care is provided by volunteers, with the support of a small team of staff who oversee clinic operations.
VIM’s patients range in age from 18 – 64, with the majority having one or more chronic condition; such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or mental health diagnoses. All of these conditions are manageable with medical oversight and access to care.
It is estimated more than 6,000 working adults still remain uninsured in the tri-county area.
“We hope that anyone who does not have health insurance will call (541) 330-9001 to make an appointment,” stated Mastrangelo. “We believe in the health of our community.”
