Bend PD warning: ‘IRS’ scammers still hitting area
Bend police issued a new warning Tuesday about a familiar scam that’s still hitting the area, well after tax-filing season: threatening calls claiming to be from the IRS and demanding payment for supposed taxes owed.
“The Bend Police Department has become aware of local citizens receiving phone calls and being pressured into giving up personal and financial information,” Lt. Clint Burleigh said in a news release.
“The people in these scams are purporting as employees of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and threatening unsuspecting citizens with jail time or additional financial penalties,” he said.

“The Bend Police Department will continue to put information out to protect the community of Bend from unnecessary financial harm,” Burleigh added.
