Deschutes County names ‘Safe Sidewalk Award’ winners
This year, nine Deschutes County businesses have been nominated by local residents for providing customers and pedestrians with a debris and hazard-free environment. Next Wednesday, these businesses will receive Safe Sidewalk Awards from the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
Each year, the awards serve as a positive reminder to businesses that promptly removing snow and ice from sidewalks helps ensure the safety of pedestrians and attracts customers.
Along with the snow and ice of winter, there are many other hazards that are present year-round that need attention like low hanging vegetation, irrigation overspray, and deteriorating sidewalks. All of these conditions can create challenging and often dangerous conditions on commercial sidewalks.
The Safe Sidewalk Awards will be presented at the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners Business Meeting held on Wednesday, June 24 at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Barnes and Sawyer Rooms (first floor) of the Deschutes County Services Center at 1300 NW Wall Street in Bend.
