Bend homeless shelter seeks bottled water

KTVZ

As temperatures are forecast to rise to over 100 degrees this weekend, The Shepherd’s House, an organization that serves Central Oregon’s homeless, is in need of bottled water.

Summer in the high desert can be just as harsh as winter when living outdoors. Because of this, The Shepherd’s House is providing more water, serving more meals, and providing day shelter to help the homeless beat the heat.

There are are over 2,000 homeless individuals in Central Oregon. When temperatures rise in the desert, staying hydrated is extremely important.

“Since completing our new kitchen earlier this year, the number of meals we serve each month has increased. As the temperatures rise, we anticipate more people coming to the mission for a meal, water, and a place out of the heat,” says Curt Floski, Executive Director of The Shepherd’s House.

The Shepherd’s House reaches out to assist the homeless in Bend every day by providing clothing, meals, showers, and outreach to help the homeless restore their lives.

“We continue to provide the basic needs of life and our long-term program, 9 months to 2 years, for men has a waiting list most the year. We are also in the process of developing a long-term program for women and their children and are actively searching for a piece of property for the program. It just isn’t right that we have to turn women away who are seeking help,” says Floski.

Water, food, sunscreen, toiletries, clothing and hats can be dropped off at The Shepherd’s House location on Division and Revere streets in Bend. Financial donations can be made online or mail your donation to P.O. Box 5484, Bend, Oregon 97701, or call 541-388-2096 .
