Palestinian gunman kills 5 in 3rd attack in Israel in a week

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli officials say at least five people have been killed by a gunman who opened fire in a crowded city in central Israel. The shooter was killed by police at the scene. Israeli media say he was a Palestinian from the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Tuesday’s shooting rampage was the third attack in Israel within a week. The two previous attacks were carried out by Palestinian citizens of Israel who were inspired by the extremist group Islamic State. The series of attacks comes ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the anniversary of last year’s war between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers.
