Old Bend-Redmond Hwy. crash victim identified

A 32-year-old Redmond woman was killed early Monday when her car left the Old Bend-Redmond Highway and struck a tree head-on, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

County 911 dispatchers got a call around 1:40 a.m. from a neighbor reporting the crash near Redmond, just south of 93rd Street, said sheriff’s Lt. Paul Garrison.

Deputies and Redmond fire medics arrived to find the driver, identified as Martha Gregg, trapped in the wreckage of a green 1992 Honda Accord. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Garrison said.

An initial investigation found Gregg was driving south on the highway when for an unknown reason, her car crossed the oncoming lane, left the road and struck the tree, Garrison said.

The cause of the crash was being investigated, but Garrison said road and weather conditions don’t appear to have been a factor.

The crash and investigation closed the road for about three hours.

Anyone with information about the accident was urged to contact the sheriff’s office at (541) 693-6911.
