New wildfire quickly contained west of Bend

KTVZ

A new wildfire was spotted just before noon west of Bend and south of Skyliners Road, near the Two Bulls Fire, bringing a quick call-out of fire engines and water-dropping helicopters that officials said had it contained at about a quarter-acre.

The fire was reported to Deschutes County 911 by several callers not far from the Phil’s Trailhead area. The first officer on scene reported trees on fire as flames were moving through the brush.

County Emergency Manager Nathan Garibay, on scene, said the U.S. Forest Service initial attack crews were doing well in tackling the fire. Two helicopters and two Forest Service engines were working to put it out.

City officials reported shortly before 1 p.m. that the quick action already had the fire contained.

The fire broke out in the large area closed due to the nearby, more than 6,800-acre Two Bulls Fire that broke out over the weekend and has now been declared human-caused and suspicious.
