Can Bend police catch the ‘Big-Belly Bandit’?

KTVZ

It’s been over a year since he last struck — and still, Bend’s serial bank robber has yet to be caught.

“Sure it’s frustrating. But with that said , I think it’s a motivation for us,” said Bend police Lt. Nick Parker.

The suspect’s last known crime was December 13th, 2013 . He robbed the Home Federal Bank in downtown Bend, his fifth Bend bank robbery in two years.

Since then. nothing. No more robberies, at least not in Bend.

With such a consistent string of crimes, detectives have been looking to see if this suspect has perhaps moved to another area to continue his crime spree.

“At this point, we haven’t linked him to any others,” said Parker.

Another dead end.

The most promising leads may not come from investigators reviewing the clues but from the public itself.

“People have called, you know, ‘That looks like this person,’ or, ‘I think this might be that person.’ And so each one of those requires sort of a mini-investigation,” Parker said.

Those mini-investigations take time and money. All the same, detectives say they have not given up.

The suspect is described as having a light complexion, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-11 and 230 to 260 pounds.

If you believe you have any information about the case , you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-877-876-TIPS or fill out the form on our Crime Stoppers page. You can remain anonymous and you could be eligible for a cash reward.

While investigators wait for a promising lead, some trails remain active. When asked if any of the money stolen has ever turned up, Parker could do little more but smile and refuse to answer the question — a good sign that some clues continue to show up as the hunt for Bend’s serial bank robber continues.
