Bend skiers do well at American Birkebeiner

At Saturday ‘s American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race in Hayward, Wisconsin, XC Oregon racer Sarah Max (Bend) finished 8th overall in the women’s 51km skate event for a career-best finish in a race won by 2014 Olympian Holly Brooks of Anchorage.

XC Oregon’s Matt Briggs (Bend) finished 24th in the men’s 51km skate event won by Italy’s Sergio Bonaldi.

The American Birkebeiner is one of the largest cross-country ski events in the world and the largest cross-country ski event in North America with up to 10,000 total participants annually taking part over multiple race distances. The Birkebeiner is one of 16 elite Worldoppet Series of global ski marathons.
