California couple killed in SW Oregon crash

KTVZ

A California couple died Thursday afternoon when they ran a stop sign and their car was struck by a semi-truck on state Highway 140 near Medford, Oregon State Police said.

Troopers responded around 1:15 p.m. to the reported crash at the intersection of Highway 140 and Kershaw Road, about three miles northeast of Medford in Jackson County, OSP Sgt. Jeff Proulx said.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2013 Toyota Camry was northbound on Kershaw and failed to stop at the stop sign, driving into the path of a 2001 Freightliner heading west on the highway near milepost 2, Proulx said.

The car’s two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The names of the victims were being withheld pending notification of family. The truck driver was unhurt and is cooperating with the investigation; Proulx said no criminal charges are being considered.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Fire District 3, Mercy Flights, Jackson County Sheriff’s office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
