(Update: Adding mugshot, higher bail)

A 28-year-old Prineville man was arrested Thursday, accused of stabbing a 24-year-old acquaintance at a northeast Bend home, police said.

Bend officers and detectives were dispatched around 8:30 a.m. to St. Charles Bend on a reported stabbing victim in the Emergency Department with non-life-threatening injuries, Lt. Jason Maniscalco said.

A house supervisor at the hospital said later the stabbing victim, Brandon Steve Cooper, 24, of Bend, was treated and released.

Police determined Cooper was stabbed earlier by an acquaintance identified as Travis Jay Root of Prineville.

They learned the stabbing occurred in the 800 block of Greenwood Avenue, in the residence part of a building with an adjoining dog-grooming business, Chez Chienne House of Dogs , Maniscalco said.

Root and another man were contacted at the address and taken to the Bend Police Department, while detectives and officers collected evidence at the scene.

Root was arrested on charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was taken to the Deschutes County Jail, where he was held on $60,000 bail Thursday night.

Maniscalco said investigators determined the other male was only a witness and was given a ride back to the residence.
