UPDATE: Coyner Fire in Redmond held at 20.5 acres, evacuation level remains in place

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Fire crews continue working to contain the Coyner Fire burning northwest of Tetherow Road in Redmond, where flames threatened homes and powerlines over the holiday weekend.
The fire started Saturday afternoon near Northwest Tetherow Road and Northwest Helmholtz Way and has grown to 20.5 acres, according to WildCAD. Fire managers say there has been no new growth, and the fire is now 10% contained.



Level 2 “Be Set” evacuations remain in place in Deschutes County, meaning residents should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. Evacuation information is available through the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire quickly moved through dry fuels, including juniper, grass, brush and sage — a reminder of how fast conditions can change during Central Oregon’s fire season.
Interagency crews responded with seven engines and two tenders. Officials say forward spread of the fire has stopped, and firefighters spent Sunday reinforcing fire lines, constructing dozer lines along the south and west flanks, and working to protect nearby structures.
Crews are also addressing pockets of unburned fuel within the fire perimeter and will continue mop-up operations overnight.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Activity: Forward fire spread has stopped. Today, interagency firefighters are reinforcing firelines and protecting nearby structures. Dozer line is now in place along portions of the south and west flanks. Fire resources will remain on scene throughout the day, with additional crews assigned for night operations.
UPDATE: WATCH DUTY - Zone RED-131-B has been reduced to a Level 2 (Be Set) evacuation status & Zone RED-131-A has returned to normal status, as significant progress has been made on the fire - per the Deschutes Genasys Protect Evacuation Map. Fire crews and equipment are continuing to work in the area.
UPDATE: WATCH DUTY - The fire is 11 acres, and resources will be committed until midnight. - Per radio traffic.
