BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Mustangs To The Rescue will assume operational management of Equine Outreach Inc.'s programs and horses in Central Oregon by Oct. 15.

Following the management transition, Equine Outreach Inc. will formally wind down operations after serving the regional community for more than 20 years.

Under the transition plan, all five horses currently in the care of Equine Outreach Inc. will be transferred to Mustangs To The Rescue, where they will continue to receive uninterrupted care supported by the organization's volunteer base.

The combined operations will provide direct rescue, medical rehabilitation, retraining and adoption services for at-risk and displaced equines. The effort also includes frontline disaster response—such as emergency evacuation, sheltering and feed distribution during Oregon wildfires—and community programs offering clinics and feed assistance to help owners keep horses safely at home.

Kurtis Hooley serves as executive director of Equine Outreach Inc. Hooley reflected on the organization's history and the transition working alongside Kate Beardsley of Mustangs To The Rescue.

“This is an exciting step forward,” Hooley said. “Uniting with Beardsley and Mustangs To The Rescue ensures our herd receives seamless care while expanding our collective capacity for disaster relief, rehabilitation and community impact. We would like to thank all our partners, specifically Sundance Meadows, Bend Equine Medical Center and Coyote Rock Ranch, that helped EOI service the community for these 20+ years” Throughout its two decades of operation, Equine Outreach Inc. relied on regional partners, including Sundance Meadows, Bend Equine Medical Center and Coyote Rock Ranch. Remaining assets from Equine Outreach Inc. will be transferred directly to Mustangs To The Rescue to fund ongoing equine care and support programs.

Mustangs To The Rescue is a Bend-based, volunteer-powered 501(c)(three) nonprofit organization. The all-breed rescue provides rehabilitation, adoption programs, owner assistance and statewide emergency disaster response.

Mustangs To The Rescue is scheduled to complete the operational transition by Oct. 15, after which Equine Outreach Inc. will formally wind down and transfer its remaining assets.
