KTVZ

Bend, Ore. (KTVZ) --- Cascades East Transit is offering free rides on Bend bus routes, Dial-A-Ride and Community Connector routes 24, 29 and 30 through Monday, Oct. 26. The fare-free service was launched following a tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary School.

The Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council authorized the temporary transportation assistance to support the local community.

“The fare-free service is meant to help community members stay connected to resources, friends and family following the tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary,” the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council said in a statement.

Riders taking eligible bus and connector routes do not need to show a pass or pay any fare during the promotion. Dial-A-Ride users are instructed to continue booking their trips through standard scheduling procedures.

Transit schedules and complete route details are available online on the Cascades East Transit website.

The fare-free service on eligible Bend bus routes, Dial-A-Ride and Community Connector routes 24, 29 and 30 will remain available through Monday, Oct. 26.
