Wintry weather returns with a mix of rain and snow

There is a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties starting at 11 pm tonight through Thursday afternoon. Bend, Redmond, Prineville and Madras are included in the Advisory.  This has been issued due to the late season snow potential of around 1 – 2”. This will make roads slick and travel impacted.

The region will see a line of light rain Wednesday that will help to cool the region significantly from our 80° weather Tuesday.  Overnight the rain will change over to a wintry mix of rain and snow. The snow will have a difficult time accumulating on the ground since we were so warm, but we will be dealing with slick roads and some patchy ice on bridges and overpasses.

The high temperatures the rest of the work week will only top out in the low to middle 40s, about 10° cooler than normal.  The overnight lows will be a few degrees below freezing, which is about normal.  Although the accumulation of snow seems to be low, the snow will be falling for several hours. Visibility issues and other travel hazards are likely to be present most of the day Thursday.

Friday will be mostly cloudy with a stray shower possible. The temperatures are not expected to warm much over the weekend. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Near normal temperatures are likely to return next week and will likely reach the 60s by Tuesday.

Snow riders are going to get several inches of new snow each of the next few days.  Enjoy and stay safe.
