Cloudy and cooler today, some air quality improvements

Cooler air has officially moved in for the day. Temperatures drop to near normal, in the mid and upper 60s. Lows tonight in the 30s and 40s. Cloud cover rolled in yesterday and will be hanging out for the rest of the work week.

Because of the cooler conditions, our relative humidity raises. These things together are good news for firefighters. We are still pretty dry at the surface, but this is better. Smoke, although still there, will not be as bad today. Variable winds won’t provide a lot of ventilation, but air quality should see some small improvements.  We still have an Air Quality Alert out for Deschutes County until at least tomorrow, so be aware of that. The most updated alerts can be found at the top of our website.

The Pine Fire seems to be less of a concern, as it gets contained and extinguished relatively quickly and all that’s left is smolder. There has been growth on the Little Lava Fire over the last few days which has been one of the bigger causes for the smoke in our skies.

As we head into the weekend, temperatures raise a bit to the low and mid 70s as a ridge begins to build. Early next week looks to be a bit warmer, in the mid and upper 70s. Looking ahead at our long-term forecast, there is a chance for some rain mid next week that we will continue to track as it approaches.

Have a happy Thursday! Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the hidden pumpkin in my forecast this month.
