Cooler pattern short lived, cloudy again Friday

The cooler pattern will not linger past today as the region will see a warmer flow of air over the weekend. Friday will not be much of a warm up, but relative to the season and our normal high temperatures for mid-October, afternoon temperatures this weekend in the low to mid-70s will be considered well above normal.  Highs this time of year are expected to be in the middle 60s.

Plenty of cloud cover Friday will provide a challenge for the warming trend, but I still expect to see the mercury reach the middle 70s.  The clouds depart on Saturday and the winds will be generally from the north and northwest, bringing in slightly cooler air. The area will still above normal. A bit warmer Sunday and Monday as the mid-70s are obtained each of those days.

Big changes expected for the middle of next week as the region will be dealing with a cooler pattern along with the chance for some rain. A cold front is forecast to arrive late Tuesday and will get us on the cooler side of the street for mid-week.  Although it is several days out, a few of the models are suggesting some widespread light rain Wednesday, followed by a bit of a wintry mix on Thursday.

This is not etched in stone by any stretch, but if we get the wintry mix over the high desert, that means some decent snow at higher elevated locations along the Cascades.  We will let this play out in future model runs, but those that look forward to cooler weather, next week may provide a taste of winter, albeit a small taste.

The air quality will continue to improve in the region but the Little Lava fire continues to generate smoky skies for southern Deschutes County.
