Little change in the pattern this weekend

The cold air overnight will remain along with a chance for some patchy fog across the Cascades. The past few nights we have seen overnight fog and freezing fog developing to our north and west.  This may continue over the weekend as the pattern changes little over the next several days.

Frost on the windshield has been present each of the past few days as the temps are cold and there is some moisture in the air.  If you so are heading out tomorrow morning, give a couple minutes extra to scrap the frost off the windshield.

As we enjoy the long holiday weekend, the atmosphere looks to be dominated by high pressure.  This will continue into next week as we start the beginning of the meteorological winter on Sunday.

The meteorological winter is defined by the three coldest months of the year in the northern hemisphere. The astronomical winter is defined by the relationship of the Earth and the Sun. The winter solstice occurs when the direct rays of the sun are perfectly over the Tropic of Cancer marking the end of the rays’ journey north.  This is the shortest day of the year and is typically on the 21st of December. This year it is on the 21st at 1:19 am local time.

The winter snow has been present on the Cascades early this year and the resorts are all opening this weekend.  Friday will be the beginning of the season for all resorts.

Please stay safe when traveling this week and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
