Snow and a wintry mix expected Friday and Saturday

There will be a series of fronts that will slide through the state that will provide the area with mountain snow and lower elevation snow and wintry mix. The snow will be slow and steady and will be returning to the region Friday afternoon.  The snow today will be tapering off and we may see some clearing overnight.

Friday will start out dry but as the day moves along the next in a series of fronts moves across Oregon.  The precipitation should begin around noon and continue into the night. The flow of air will be from the south and west so the temperatures will be above freezing during the day.  The precipitation will start out as a mix, then transition to snow after sunset and the temps drop. Along 97 there may be as much as 2 – 3” or more by Saturday morning.

Saturday will see snow mixed with some rain off and on. The totals will be hard to nail down as the rain compromises the measuring process as it will melt some of the snow.  Bottom line, the roads will be slick and hard to navigate, there may be some very slick roads as the rain and snow mix into slush then freeze overnight into Sunday.

Sunday will be the partly cloudy day as we await the next round of snow and rain. This will be a great day to get out and enjoy the wonderful snow-covered landscapes we have here in Central Oregon.

Monday will be the last day of this pattern of on and off snow. The snow begins before sunrise and should be present through the day. There may be a mix of cold rain and sleet in the afternoon but the event should come to an end by late afternoon.

Tuesday will start a period of mostly sunny and dry days with highs in the middle 40s.

Please stay safe.
