Dry and quiet pattern through the week, bitter cold again this weekend

Not much change in the forecast with respect to the clear skies.  The main issues this week will be nailing down the temperatures each day.  High pressure is in complete control of the region and we will see mostly sunny days and cold nights. Through most of the week the mercury in the thermometer will be above normal, which is the low 40s, then a big drop in the air temperature as we head toward the weekend.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, we are on the milder side of a ridge of high pressure.  This ridge is what will continue to bring in the slightly above normal temperatures through Thursday.  At the surface we are dealing with high pressure as well, keeping the clouds away and the temps above normal as well.  The change arrives late on Thursday.

Thursday will be the mildest day of the week as highs will be in the 50s most locations. Clouds will move in as the day moves along as we prepare for a much colder regime to arrive Friday.

The air arrives from the north as a ridge develops in the Gulf of Alaska and taps into the air around the arctic circle. This location allows the colder air to arrive Friday and we should drop about 15 degrees from Thursday to Friday. Saturday will be even colder as the below normal pattern remains.

The chance for some snow is possible on Friday, but very low. A few of the computer models are suggesting a passing snow shower, others are not indicating anything.  That will be monitored as we get closer to the weekend.  Look for the main story to be the cold air this weekend. Lows will be in the teens, highs will be in the low 30s.

Please stay safe.
