Snow returns overnight, expected travel issues Friday morning
The National Weather Service had upgraded our winter weather alert from an Advisory to a Warning in Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville. Accumulations of snow from 3 – 5” will be common in those areas. The Winter Weather Advisory is still in place for SE Deschutes and eastern Jefferson Counties as well as Crook County. Expect to see 2 – 4” of snow overnight and into tomorrow morning.

This wave of snow is arriving from the south and will overtake the region for several hours. The steady nature of the event will allow the snow to pile up slowly but surely. Roads are wet from the melting and tire friction today, so icy and snow packed conditions are going to make driving around our towns difficult.
Friday night will be slick and cold, but the snow should have ended early enough in the day to allow for the roads to be treated and/or cleared.
Another short snow event is likely Saturday, off and on, so keep the snow gear handy.
Sunday will be dry and partly cloudy as temperatures struggle to get above freezing. The new work week will be very cold, with highs in the 20s and lows in the single digits. Prepare your home for the possibility of frozen pipes and other issues that come with this type of cold air.
Please stay safe.
