LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY: High heat is forecasted in the high desert

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - A ridge of high pressure is building across the Pacific Northwest through Monday, resulting in warmer and drier conditions here in Central Oregon. Our team of meteorologists have issued a Local Alert Weather Day for Monday due to the high heat forecasted.

We began that warming trend today, with highs reaching the low 80s.

Overnight lows will drop into the 40s and 50s, so it will be a little warmer than what we saw early this morning.

Saturday's highs will hit the mid to upper 80s, with temperatures rising into the 90s by Sunday. An Extreme Heat Watch will go into effect Sunday Afternoon through Tuesday evening for portions of Central Oregon.

Monday is expected to bring the peak of the heat (mid to upper 90s), with warm overnight temperatures offering little relief for some.

The next few days should be great if you're getting out on the water, whether you're floating or boating!

Fire danger remains one of our main concerns this time of year. As we head into early next week, winds are expected to pick up a bit. That mix of heat, dry conditions, and increasing wind is something we’ll be watching closely.

Enjoy the rest of your Friday!
