Filtered sunshine today, setup day tomorrow, rain Thursday

(KTVZ, Bend Ore). Well above normal temperature readings so far this week will be coming to an end Thursday. Today we saw a good deal of high-level cloudiness while the temperature readings hit the 60s again.
There is an issue with the air quality as the region of high pressure overhead has trapped the smoke from recent pile burns and agricultural burns. An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the Department of Environmental Quality for this reason. Officially expected to expire tomorrow, but if we get some winds that scour out the region, it may be dropped earlier.

Wednesday will be the transition day between the mild and dry pattern and a chilly and wet one. Highs Wednesday will still hit the middle to low 60s, but we will notice the cloud cover lowering and thickening ahead of a rainy pattern.

The rain will begin before sunrise Thursday and with the temperatures still mild, snowfall is not expected. There may be some snow at the highest peaks, but above pass level.

The rain will be off and on and not as robust as originally thought. The Cascades receive the lion's share of the moisture. Temperatures are still forecast to hit the low 60s in the warm air ahead of the front. Once the front passes late in the day we should see temps drop quickly.  Winds will be noticeable as well ahead of the front, gusting near 30 mph in some spots.

Before sunrise Friday a line of rain and mountain snow will arrive, but should be mainly over the Cascades. The precipitation will be ending early in the day an may not make it east to the 97-highway corridor.  This mix of rain and snow should impact the mountain passes, but not overwhelming.

The rest of the day Friday and through the day Saturday our region will be dry and breezy. Temperatures will be in the low and middle 50s.

Sunday starts out partly cloudy and breezy with highs getting to the mid-50s.  A line of showers will move through overnight and should impact the mountain passes once again with a couple inches of snow.  The mountains will take most of the precipitation and the high desert will see some snow showers early Monday, but not much will accumulate. Dry and chilly weather is slated for Tuesday.
