Summer feel across Central Oregon

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Well above normal temperatures today are likely to be a one and done. There will be high temperatures in the 80s today as the skies remain clear during peak heating. The chance for the region returning to the 80s the rest of the week is much less. If you enjoy the mid-summer feel of the 80s, today is your day, if you enjoy the 60s, you only have to wait until the weekend.

A ridge of high pressure is centered well off in the eastern Pacific, but the impacts are felt here in Central Oregon. This feature is a rather flat ridge that expands across the region. This is allowing us to stay quiet today and warm.

There is a weak impulse that will slide across Central Oregon tomorrow and that will bring in some clouds and a few stray showers. This may bring a few thunderstorms to eastern Oregon in the afternoon, but not much is likely across the Tri-Counties.  Eastern Crook County may hear the rumble of thunder in the afternoon, but very isolated and the chance is low.

This wave is out ahead of a very large area of low pressure currently south of the Aleutian Islands.  We will not be impacted by this low until the weekend as a cooler air mass arrives along with a few showers over the crest of the Cascades.

Until then, Thursday and Friday will be dry and mild with high temperatures in the middle 70s. A few clouds arrive Friday late in the day as some light rain falls on the Cascades. The rain is not expected to make it to the high desert as the moisture starved soil remains in need of a good soaking.

Saturday will be breezy and cooler than the normal low 70s for early June. The highs will be in the middle 60s across the area and the light rain over the mountains remains into the morning.

Sunday warms up just a few degrees into the low 70s, exactly where the climatological records tell us we should be.

Monday has Central Oregon looking at some light rain crossing in from the west. Currently only a line of light rain is being advertised by the models, but that may change to more widespread rain as we get closer to the event.

Overall the rest of the week and into the weekend will have it’s share of ups and downs temperature-wise, but nothing to earth shattering.

Please, Stay safe.
