October starts out warm and dry

The beginning of October is more in line with what should be happening in August. Highs in the 80s are more reminiscent of a summer day than the early part of fall. This will be reversed Wednesday as a weak cold front moves through the Pacific Northwest and cools the area down.  No moisture to work with this far inland, so we will stay dry.  A bit breezy, but by no means windy conditions are expected with the frontal passage.

Slightly milder pattern is expected on Thursday as we begin a bit of a warm up. The highs will be in the middle 70s under mostly sunny skies.  There will be a few clouds arriving overnight into Friday as we get ready for a partly to mostly cloudy day Friday.

There are some models that give us slight chance for a passing shower Friday but rainfall amounts will be near zero. The dry nature of the lower levels of the atmosphere will not allow much moisture to make it to the ground before evaporating.   I still expect to see a mix of clouds and sunshine Friday, just more clouds than sun.

The weekend is shaping up nicely if you like to hang on to the 70s and low 80s.  Mostly sunny skies are likely both Saturday and Sunday as the region remains dry.  Normal highs this weekend are the middle to upper 60s, so once again we remain on the higher side of normal.

Not much rain is expected over the next several days, only a brief chance for some rain Wednesday.

September was very dry with only 0.05” of rain recorded in Bend, normal is 0.31”.  We don’t typically get a lot of rain in the high desert, but for the past four months (June, July, Aug, Sept) we have only received 0.39” of rain. Normally that number should be 1.78”.  We have only received 21% of our normal amount of rain for the past few months. We could use some rain.
